Amen
[Val Senales Glacier, Italy. Finish line "Ötzi Alpin Marathon", April 27, 2019]
“Amen” is a series of photographic close-ups behind the finish line a of a competition that the South Tyrolean Val Senales has been hosting for 16 years. The "Ötzi Alpin Marathon" leads from Naturno to the Val Senales Glacier and invites its participants to overcome a total of 3,234 meters of altitude difference in three disciplines – mountain biking, running and ski touring.
Some manage the entire competition alone (best time in 2019 was 3 hours 37 minutes), others in a team as a relay.
Everyone reaches their own limits, but the goal is the same for everyone. Emotions, pain and gasping for air mix in their faces. With the words “Bravo! Congratulations!” the finishers are received with a medal and blankets.
Just below the Grawand summit, something what seems like a pilgrimage to the sky, ends behind the finish line in an abrupt awakening from a trance.
