Franziska Gilli (*1987 in Bolzano / Italy) is a freelance photographer based in Hannover. Her wide-ranging portfolio engages with issues in the social, cultural and economic fields, which she examines through independent photojournalism as well as in commissioned projects.
Solid research is key to her approach to such issues, and likewise her passionate interest in how people shape, and also are shaped by, social systems. She thereby regards her camera as a political and cultural tool that enables her to inspire a new understanding and experience of the subject matter.
Her work is fundamentally committed to the precision of a rigorous gaze and to open-ended inquiry: into the contexts people live in, the things that drive them, how they behave as a collective body, and the values they uphold. Thus, she presents personal, professional and public worlds in the light of their overarching social relevance.
